Venezuela stages own concerts in response to Branson’s Live Aid show

February 18, 2019

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela’s government will stage two concerts on the Colombian border this weekend to compete with a “Live Aid”-style show announced by British billionaire Richard Branson to raise funds for food and medicine for the South American country.

Increasingly internationally isolated President Nicolas Maduro, who denies there is a humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, says Western relief efforts coordinated by the opposition are part of a U.S.-orchestrated coup to overthrow him.

Branson said last week he was organizing a concert on Feb. 22 to raise funds for aid for Venezuela in the Colombian border city of Cucuta, where donations provided by the United States and others are already being stockpiled.

The move has evoked comparisons to Irish rock star Bob Geldof’s global Live Aid concert to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. Branson has said he wants to raise $100 million in 60 days.

Venezuelan Information Minister Jorge Rodriguez said on Monday that the government was also planning concerts on Feb. 22 and 23, on the Simon Bolivar bridge connecting the country with Cucuta, with the slogan “nothing for war, hands off Venezuela”.

The government would also hand out food to poor residents of Cucuta this weekend, he said in televised statements – a “cynical” move, according to opposition leader Juan Guaido, given shortages of food in Venezuela.

Guaido last month invoked constitutional provisions to assume the presidency, arguing Maduro was re-elected in a sham election, and has since been recognized as Venezuela’s legitimate leader by dozens of nations.

He said on Monday that the government’s statements would not alter the opposition’s plans to bring in aid from neighboring countries via land and sea on Saturday with the help of volunteers nationwide.

“This does not in the slightest change our plan to generate pressure, to ensure the arrival of the aid,” Guaido said at a news briefing. “If it doesn’t enter on the twenty-third, it will enter on the twenty-fourth, it will enter on the twenty-fifth” of February.

The opposition has urged the military, which remains loyal to Maduro, to let the aid in. Analysts say that would seriously undermine Maduro’s authority and could lead to his ouster.

In a speech late on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump warned members of Venezuela’s military who are helping Maduro to stay in power that they are risking their future and their lives and urged them to allow humanitarian aid into the country.

California tells Trump that lawsuit over border wall is ‘imminent’

February 17, 2019

By David Morgan and David Lawder

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – California will “imminently” challenge President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to obtain funds for a U.S.-Mexico border wall, state Attorney General Xavier Becerra said on Sunday.

“Definitely and imminently,” Becerra told ABC’s “This Week” program when asked whether and when California would sue the Trump administration in federal court. Other states controlled by Democrats are expected to join the effort.

“We are prepared, we knew something like this might happen. And with our sister state partners, we are ready to go,” he said.

Trump invoked the emergency powers on Friday under a 1976 law after Congress rebuffed his request for $5.7 billion to help build the wall that was a signature 2016 campaign promise.

The move is intended to allow him to redirect money appropriated by Congress for other purposes to wall construction.

The White House says Trump will have access to about $8 billion. Nearly $1.4 billion was allocated for border fencing under a spending measure approved by Congress last week, and Trump’s emergency declaration is aimed at giving him another $6.7 billion for the wall.

Becerra cited Trump’s own comment on Friday that he “didn’t need to do this” as evidence that the emergency declaration is legally vulnerable.

“It’s become clear that this is not an emergency, not only because no one believes it is but because Donald Trump himself has said it’s not,” he said.

Becerra and California Governor Gavin Newsom, both Democrats, have been expected to sue to block Trump’s move.

Becerra told ABC that California and other states are waiting to learn which federal programs will lose money to determine what kind of harm the states could face from the declaration.

He said California may be harmed by less federal funding for emergency response services, the military and stopping drug trafficking.

“We’re confident there are at least 8 billion ways that we can prove harm,” Becerra said.

Three Texas landowners and an environmental group filed the first lawsuit against Trump’s move on Friday, saying it violates the Constitution and would infringe on their property rights.

The legal challenges could at least slow down Trump’s efforts to build the wall but would likely end up at the conservative-leaning U.S. Supreme Court.

Congress never defined a national emergency in the National Emergencies Act of 1976, which has been invoked dozens of times without a single successful legal challenge.

Democrats in Congress have vowed to challenge Trump’s declaration and several Republican lawmakers have said they are not certain whether they would support the president.

“I think many of us are concerned about this,” Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee, told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Trump could, however, veto any resolution of disapproval from Congress.

White House senior adviser Stephen Miller told Fox News on Sunday that Trump’s declaration would allow the administration to build “hundreds of miles” of border wall by September 2020.

“We have 120-odd miles that are already under construction or are already obligated plus the additional funds we have and then we’re going to outlay – we’re going to look at a few hundred miles.”

Trump’s proposed wall and wider immigration policies are likely to be a major campaign issue ahead of the next presidential election in November 2020, where he will seek a second four-year term.

“Something Changed” – Stocks Buck 2019 Trend With Late-Day Dump

“Back to the future”…

Chinese stocks extended their epic run overnight…

Italian stocks are leading in Europe…

US equities drifted higher overnight, surged at the cash open, dumped on Marco Rubio’s tweet about taxing buybacks, then ramped back to the highs – because, well… just because…. and then faded as Trump asked Congress for more funding in the border bill…

Nasdaq futures plunged into the red late in the day after Trump funding headlines…

Notably – The Dow made a lower high on its post-European close surge before fading fast…

Once again the short-squeeze is invoked (5th day in a row)…

And once again it was all buybacks supporting the bid…

The S&P 500 opened (and closed) above its 200DMA for the first time since early December…

Before we leave stocks, we note that something changed today (and yesterday) with a late-day weakness we have not seen all year…

Treasury yields rose for the 3rd day in a row – led by the belly of the curve…

Debt Ceiling anxiety is starting to appear in the T-Bill curve…The slight dislocation aligns with Wall Street strategists’ very early forecasts as to when the Treasury could exhaust its extraordinary measures.

After rallying for 8 straight days, the dollar dipped yesterday… but that was all forgotten today as the dollar soared back to new highs…

The dollar strength weighed on PMs and copper but oil prices surged despite inventory builds…

Finally, we note that the initial Plunge Protection Team surge in global central bank balance sheets has now faded, leaving stocks on their own… for now…

With a gaping spread to reality…

It can’t happen again right?

The Failure of Guaido’s Constitutional Claim to the Presidency of Venezuela

The three constitutional articles invoked by Juan Guaido to legitimise his presidency are: 233, 333, and 350. The latter two are broad affirmations of democracy and constitutionality, silent on Presidential lines of succession. Guaido’s claim rests entirely on 233; presented

Snowflake Comey Melts Down Over Trump’s Latest Comments on FBI, Government Shutdown

Leaker and liar James Comey melted down Monday and slammed Republicans from his Twitter account after President Trump’s latest tirade about the FBI and government shutdown.

The New York Times reported this weekend that the FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into President Trump as revenge for firing FBI Director James Comey.

There was no evidence Trump was working on behalf of the Russian government, the investigation was to avenge Comey’s firing.

The President unleashed a tweetstorm attacking the crooked lying cops over at the FBI, and honed in on Lyin’ James Comey.

Trump continued to attack the corrupt Democrats and FBI agents on Monday.

As President Trump left the White House Monday morning, he went off on the Democrats and the FBI during a press spray, calling the FBI agents who wanted to investigate him “liars” and “scoundrels” and “dirty cops.”

President Trump once again called Comey a “bad cop” and a “dirty cop” and said he did the country a favor by firing him.

Snowflake Comey can’t handle the truth so he lashed out at Republicans from his Twitter account Monday afternoon, invoking a quote from the Army-McCarthy hearings.

COMEY: This is not okay, not normal. That the witness intimidation continues while hundreds of thousands of honest public servants are without pay moves it from just outrageous to unconscionable. Can Republicans hear the past asking, “At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”

Comey invoked the infamous quote heard around the world from the Army-McCarthy hearings to lecture Republicans. His arrogance is astounding.

Obama’s Nixon moment: Executive Order invoked to block release of incriminating Fast and Furious documents

(NaturalNews) The level of outright criminality in the Obama administration is now apparent to almost everyone. In the face of incriminating documents being released regarding the lawbreaking Fast and Furious operation pulled off by Attorney General Eric Holder, President Obama has invoked executive order to prevent their release.

He followed it by saying, “I am not a crook.”

Oh wait, that was Nixon. But it’s hard to tell the difference anymore except that Nixon’s crimes pale in comparison to the crimes being committed by the Obama administration.

This is an administration that has abolished due process and legalized secret military arrests, interrogations and imprisonment (http://www.naturalnews.com/034537_NDAA_Bill_of_Rights_Obama.html), seized control over U.S. farms, livestock and seeds (http://www.naturalnews.com/035301_Obama_executive_orders_food_supply….), created secret “kill lists” of American citizens to be murdered by the state (including at least one young girl), escalated the failed War on Drugs, paid off Wall Street banksters with another trillion dollars in bailout money, conspired with Monsanto to eliminate regulation of GMOs, and expanded both DHS and the TSA to keep violating Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights across the airports (and city streets) of America.

The list of crimes the Obama administration has committed is too long to even fit in this story. It dwarfs the crimes of the Nixon Administration, Clinton Administration and Bush Administration combined!

And yet, I somehow feel compelled to vote for Obama this November. Watch my satire video: 7 reasons to re-elect President Obama:

Evidence of felony crimes committed by this administration

The documents in question are internal emails and communications from February, 2011, which would reveal how justice officials came to learn about Fast and Furious. We already know, of course, how they learned about it: They engineered the entire operation! These documents, if released, would undoubtedly prove it.

Thus, the Attorney General and now President Obama are pulling out all the stops, desperately trying to make sure nobody sees these documents. It brings up the question government goons always ask innocent travelers at the airport: If you don’t have anything to hide, you shouldn’t mind us searching you!

If the Obama Administration didn’t have anything to hide, why would they mind releasing a few emails and internal documents from the Attorney General’s office? After all, isn’t the Attorney General supposed to be working on behalf of the People, fighting crime and seeking justice at every turn? Why would emails regarding such activities need to be kept from the public?

The answer, of course, is that these documents likely prove the total criminality of Eric Holder and the government conspiracy behind Fast and Furious.

Fast and Furious was a government-run conspiracy to cause gun violence as a way to criminalize gun ownership in America

The program, after all, allowed tens of thousands of guns and grenades to be sold to Mexican drug gangs, and U.S. ATF agents even assisted the sales! Once the guns were lost in Mexico, many of them resurfaced at the scene of various murders in the USA, including murders of border patrol agents and law enforcement officers.

Thus, Eric Holder and the Obama administration are involved in a deep conspiracy that resulted in the murder of U.S. law enforcement agents. The point of the operation, however, was to cause a spike in gun violence in America which could then be invoked as justification to crush the Second Amendment and outlaw firearms ownership across the country. It is, without question, the most evil government false flag operations we’ve seen since 9/11.

Gee, no wonder they don’t want to release the documents. There’s an election to win, after all, and the worst thing for any election would be for the actual truth to come out. And this is for a President who argued in 2007, on Larry King LIVE, that no President should “hide behind executive privilege every time there’s something a little shaky that’s taking place.”

Watch the video of Obama saying this himself at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpwYh9TD6Nc

The one thing you can count on with Obama, of course, is that what he SAYS and what he DOES are complete opposites. Maybe the Obama of 2012 should consult with the Obama of 2007 and actually do the right thing for the People of America for a change: Release the documents. Now the whole world wants to know what they contain.

Where is Wikileaks when you really need ‘em?
