Ilhan Omar Blasts Obama For “Caging Of Kids” Along Border, ‘Getting Away With Murder’ Overseas

Buried near the end of a Friday Politico article on Rep. Ilhan Omar and her polarizing impact on the Democratic party is a stunning comment by the Minnesota Democrat; former president Obama’s “hope and change” was nothing more than a mirage.

<!–[if IE 9]><![endif]–>

As she saw it, the party ostensibly committed to progressive values had become complicit in perpetuating the status quo. Omar says the “hope and change” offered by Barack Obama was a mirage. Recalling the “caging of kids” at the U.S.-Mexico border and the “droning of countries around the world” on Obama’s watch, she argues that the Democratic president operated within the same fundamentally broken framework as his Republican successor. –Politico

“We can’t be only upset with Trump. … His policies are bad, but many of the people who came before him also had really bad policies. They just were more polished than he was,” said Omar. “And that’s not what we should be looking for anymore. We don’t want anybody to get away with murder because they are polished. We want to recognize the actual policies that are behind the pretty face and the smile.”

Based on replies to a tweet by Politico Editor in Chief Blake Hounshell noting Omar’s comments on Obama, people agree:

President Trump came under fire last May for a photograph of two migrant children sleeping in a cage at an ICE detention facility which went viral. After a laundry list of journalists and public figures angrily tweeted the photo – including CNN’s Hadas Gold, NYT Mag’s editor-in-chief Jake Silverstein, Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau and former LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, they deleted their tweets in shame when it emerged that the photo was taken in 2014, under Obama

The widespread abuse of children detained at the border under the Obama administration has been largely glossed over. As we reported last September, howeve, the University of Arizona and the ACLU did not let it go unnoticed.

One woman interviewed was detained for nearly a month in CADC while she was six months pregnantShe was shackled during transport to and from the facility. At the facility, she was denied monitoring or treatment for an ovarian cyst that posed a risk to herself and the fetus, and received no response to her requests for prenatal vitamins or extra padding for her bed.68 (Her case is described more fully in the box below.) Another woman interviewed was separated from her breastfeeding baby daughter, who was less than two months old, while she was detained in Eloy for two weeks. –University of Arizona

and

Among those findings are that women did not receive adequate medical or mental health care, were often mixed together with women serving criminal sentences, and were often transferred from faraway states. In most cases, researchers found that women were separated from at least one child. –ACLUAZ.org

The Politico interview comes one day after the House passed an anti-hate resolution which started out as a rebuke of Rep Omar over anti-Israel comments, and expanded to a general condemnation of ‘hate’ after the Democratic party became deeply divided over whether or not criticizing Israel is fair game.

The revamped measure passed overwhelming by 407-23, while nearly two dozen Republicans rejected it because it failed to specifically name Omar.

Furious Judge Issues Total Gag Order on Roger Stone After Photo Post w/ Crosshairs

‘I gave you a second chance. But this is not baseball. There will not be a third chance…’

(Chris Megerian, Los Angeles Times) A furious federal judge issued a tighter gag order on Roger Stone, the former political adviser to President Donald Trump, after he posted an image on social media showing what appeared to be the crosshairs of a gunsight next to her head.

“I want to be clear today. I gave you a second chance. But this is not baseball. There will not be a third chance,” U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson told Stone, saying that further transgressions could bring jail time.

Stone, who is facing seven criminal charges in the investigation into Russia’s 2016 election meddling, posted the offending photo of Jackson on Monday along with a comment calling the court proceedings against him a “show trial” and suggesting that the judge was biased against him.

He later deleted the post, then uploaded it again after removing the crosshairs symbol, and then deleted that too.

Stone denied that he intended to threaten a judge, which is a felony, and apologized in a court filing.

He asked forgiveness on Thursday when, in a dramatic and risky gambit, he took the witness stand to admit that he had abused the judge’s trust.

“I am kicking myself over my own stupidity,” he said. “but not more than my wife is kicking me.”

“Perhaps I talk too much,” Stone said, a surprising admission for a man who has become infamous for incendiary, nonstop commentary.

Stone’s decision to answer questions under oath, however, revealed that the skills of spin and obfuscation _ developed over decades as a campaign consultant _ have not translated well to the legal quagmire he now faces. At times he looked deflated in his double-breasted suit, and the corners of his lips were anchored in a deep frown.

Jackson’s anger flared when she addressed Stone.

“How hard was it to come up with a photograph that didn’t have crosshairs in the corner?” she demanded.

Stone said he didn’t notice the symbol when he posted the photo, which he said was found by a volunteer. But he couldn’t identify the volunteer, or even the names of all the helpers who cycle through the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home that he said functions as his “headquarters.”

Prosecutors also noted that even though Stone has apologized for his Instagram post, he has repeated similar criticisms to several media outlets, including Infowars, a far-right, conspiracy-themed website.

Jonathan Kravis, a prosecutor with the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, said Stone has “shown a desire to manipulate media coverage” that could taint the jury pool for his trial, which has not yet been scheduled.

Roger Stone

Stone asked for leniency because he makes a living as a commentator and writer on politics. But he also admitted that he’s not being paid to talk specifically about the Russia investigation, meaning a gag order wouldn’t necessarily slash his income.

Jackson said Stone’s work in politics and media only made him more responsible for the content of his Instagram post.

“Roger Stone fully understands the power of words and the power of symbols,” she said. “There’s nothing ambiguous about crosshairs.”

Although she did not say whether she interpreted the post as a personal threat, she said such commentary runs the “very real risk” of inciting violence.

Jackson had originally issued a partial gag order last Friday, barring lawyers and prosecutors from speaking publicly about the case, but barring Stone only from commenting on the courthouse premises. Stone responded by promising to be “judicious” in his public remarks about the case.

But because he “promptly abused” that leeway, Jackson said, Stone will only be allowed to ask for donations for his legal defense fund or succinctly proclaim his innocence. No other comments about the case will be allowed.

Stone has pleaded not guilty to charges of making false statements to Congress and witness tampering in the Russia investigation.

He was released on $250,000 bond and repeatedly lashed out at special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who is leading the Russia investigation, to raise money for his legal defense fund.

Prosecutors accuse him of lying to the House Intelligence Committee about his conversations involving WikiLeaks and hacked Democratic Party emails during the 2016 presidential campaign.

According to the indictment, Stone tried to conceal the fact that he reached out to WikiLeaks, which received the emails from Russian military intelligence, and that he discussed the organization with Trump campaign officials.

Stone has denied any wrongdoing.

“I will prove in court that any failure of memory on my part was without intent and would be immaterial,” he told ABC News after he was arrested Jan. 25. “I am human and I did make some errors, but they’re errors that would be inconsequential within the scope of this investigation.”

Racist Democratic Gov. Northam confirms controversial yearbook photo: ‘I am deeply sorry for the decision’

Northam has yet to say which man in the photo he is

Northam, a child neurologist, defended Tran’s bill in the WTOP interview, saying it was “blown out of proportion” and that such abortions are done “in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that is nonviable.”

Explaining what would happen in such a case, Northam made comments that were soon seized on by political opponents and others: “The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

(WRIC) — A photo released on Friday afternoon of Governor Ralph Northam’s 1984 yearbook page from Eastern Virginia Medical School shows two men, one in blackface and another in a KKK robe.

The two people in the photograph are holding what appear to be beer cans and the one in blackface is wearing sunglasses and smiling.

Northam yearbook

After multiple requests for comment, Northam released a statement apologizing for appearing in the photo but did not specify which person in the photo he is:

“Earlier today, a website published a photograph of me from my 1984 medical school yearbook in a costume that is clearly racist and offensive.

I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and for the hurt that decision caused then and now.

This behavior is not in keeping with who I am today and the values I have fought for throughout my career in the military, in medicine, and in public service. But I want to be clear, I understand how this decision shakes Virginians’ faith in that commitment.

I recognize that it will take time and serious effort to heal the damage this conduct has caused. I am ready to do that important work. The first step is to offer my sincerest apology and to state my absolute commitment to living up to the expectations Virginians set for me when they elected me to be their Governor.”

– Gov. Ralph Northam

The yearbook page is titled Ralph Shearer Northam and also shows images of Northam in front of a Corvette, wearing a jacket and tie and one of him wearing a cowboy hat.

The Democratic governor graduated from the medical school, based in Norfolk, in 1984 after attending VMI.

The yearbook page displays details from Northam, including his alma mater, interest and a quote.

The alma mater listed is Virginia Military Institute and pediatrics is listed as an interest.

The quote on the page reads: “There are more old drunks than old doctors in this world so I think I’ll have another beer.”

Northam’s yearbook photos were first released by the site Big League Politics on Friday afternoon.

NAACP President Derrick Johnson tweeted after Northam’s apologize and called for the governor’s resignation.

After the controversial photos were released, 8News found Northam’s VMI yearbook picture, located on its digital archive site, which displays a racially offensive nickname underneath.

Virginia’s Republican leaders in the General Assembly called for Northam to explain the photograph: “This is a deeply disturbing and offensive photograph in need of an immediate explanation by the Governor,” read a statement from the office of House Speaker Kirk Cox.

Mayor Levar M. Stoney shared his feelings with 8News in a brief statement. Stoney also expressed his desire for Northam to respond to the reports: “This is deeply disappointing and offensive. I want to hear what Governor Northam has to say on this.”

“5,000 Troops To Colombia” To Quell Venezuela Crisis? John Bolton Flashes Notepad Contents At Briefing

During a Monday White House press briefing national security adviser John Bolton was photographed carrying a notepad presumably as he was fresh out of a national security meeting  and one of the things which appears to be handwritten on the pad is “5,000 troops to Colombia”.

The contents of the notepad were spotted almost immediately by multiple journalists online after an NBC news release featuring the AP photo was published. More precisely the full contents appear to read:

“Afghanistan -> Welcome the Talks. 5,000 troops to Colombia.”

Here’s the image of Bolton with his notepad from NBC News:

National Security Advisor John Bolton inadvertently flashing his notepad contents fresh out of a national security meeting, via the AP.

And a closer look, per one of the first journalists to examine the photograph and writing, who noted that “if confirmed this would be a pretty terrible OPSEC [operations security] breach”:

Bolton during the White House presser revealed that President Trump is “leaving open the possibility of a U.S. military intervention to protect opposition leader Juan Guaidó, members of the nation’s assembly and American diplomatic personnel,” according to NBC

“The president has made it clear that all options are on the table,” Bolton told reporters while holding the yellow notepad. “We also today call on the Venezuelan military and security forces to accept the peaceful, democratic and constitutional transfer of power,” Bolton said.

But could, as the notepad suggests, this involve plans to send 5,000 American troops to neighboring Columbia, a close US ally in Latin America?

No doubt the administration is already spitballing military contingency operations especially after the latest spat over Maduro’s ultimatum for all US diplomatic personnel to leave the country “within 72 hours” — which he has since walked back after the Trump administration threatened severe consequences.

There remains the possibility, however, that having clearly written words on a mostly blank pad indicating that disengagement from Afghanistan equals ramping up engagement and intervention in South America is actually intentional signalling to both enemies and allies alike.

When asked following the briefing by eagle-eyed reporters who caught a glimpse of the notepad’s contents about the “5,000 troops to Columbia” memo, the White House spokesperson responded, “As the President has said, all options are on the table.”

Chicago Mall Cracks Down As Teen Curfew Begins On Friday

Chicago will begin cracking down on unsupervised teens hanging out at the city’s Water Tower Place – the city’s original “vertical mall” according to the Chicago Sun Times

A so-called “parental guidance required” policy will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, as trained public safety officers will ensure that anyone without a valid photo ID confirming they are at least 18 years old won’t be allowed into the mall without a parent or other adult who is at least 21 years old, according to mall owner Brookfield Properties in a Thursday press release.

“The program is intended to help provide a safe, peaceful experience at our shopping center. All are welcome at Water Tower Place and at any time,” said Mitch Feldman, senior general manager of Water Tower Place. “We simply require that during certain weekend hours, families shop together and guests under 18 are accompanied by an adult.”

The curfew was announced by the mall’s general manager days after the latest in a series of violent incidents involving out-of-control young people committing acts of violence, theft and harassment on shoppers.

After 4 p.m., trained public safety officers will be stationed at all Water Tower Place entrances to check IDs of anyone who appears to be “17 years old or younger” and distribute “optional” wristbands to those who present valid ID’s.

Security guards inside the mall will also card those who appear to be underage and are not wearing wristbands.

Valid ID’s will include: a state issued driver’s license or ID card, a military ID, a school ID card, or a passport. The identification must be tamper-proof and include a photograph and date of birth. –Chicago Sun Times

“For over 40 years, Water Tower Place has been a Michigan Avenue staple for Chicagoans and our millions of tourists,” said Ald. Brian Hopkins on Thursday. “We are fully supportive of our community partner and commend their decision to enforce a (parental guidance required) Program. We believe this will help benefit the entire community.

Voting fraud allegations mar Putin’s presidential win

A few days before Russia’s presidential election, Sergei Smirnov received a phone call from a man who called himself Mikhail and told him the terms of the deal: you will vote for Vladimir Putin four times and receive 2,000 roubles ($70) in return.

The sum was promised to dozens of other young men and women who met on Sunday outside a popular fast food joint on the southwest fringe of Moscow, waiting to be taken to various polling stations in the province that rings the capital.

Smirnov, a journalist, said he found the group a few weeks prior to the election through a friend. Mikhail, whom he met at Moscow’s Yugo-Zapadnaya (Southwest) metro station on Sunday morning, gave him final instructions.

“He said we should vote for Vladimir Putin, photograph the ballot, and send him the photograph by phone,” Smirnov said.

American Spectator Editor Admits to Being Agent Provocateur at D.C. Museum Protest

(Charlie Grapski)   The following photograph taken by opednews.com‘s Cheryl Biren shows a confrontation in the lobby of the National Air and Space Museum between two individuals and an officer shortly before video shows officers with the Museum’s security forces rush outside indiscriminately pepper-spraying numerous individuals.

It appears that one of the two in the confrontation with the security officer is Patrick Howley, Assistant Editor of The American Spectator.  [See the following photograph in which Howley’s Facebook Profile Photo is side-by-side with the person pictured at the Air and Space Museum]

Immediately after the incident began hitting the newswires Howley published a “Breaking News” story with The American Spectator online in which he reveals that he had consciously infiltrated the group on Friday with the intent to discredit the movement.  He states that “as far as anyone knew I was part of this cause — a cause that I had infiltrated the day before in order to mock and undermine in the pages ofThe American Spectator — and I wasn’t giving up before I had my story.”

According to Howley’s story he joined the group in its march toward the Air and Space Museum but the protesters on the march were unwilling to be confrontational.  He states “they lack the nerve to confront authority. From estimates within the protest, only ten people were pepper-sprayed, and as far as I could tell I was the only one who got inside.”

He claims that upon arrival at the Museum the group of approximately one hundred protesters split into two factions with the smaller of the two “rushing the doors,” the majority “staying behind.”  Howley then admits in his piece that he snuck past the guard at the first entrance in order to “infiltrate” the building and then confronted another guard.  He then “sprinted toward the door” at which time he was first hit with pepper-spray.

As he describes his next actions “I forced myself into the doors and sprinted blindly across the floor of the Air and Space Museum, drawing the attention of hundreds of stunned khaki-clad tourists (some of whom began snapping off disposable-camera portraits of me).”

Fully inside, despite the orders of the security guards that the Museum was closed to the public, Howley made his way upstairs – to the location where a banner was unfurled protesting the Museum’s exhibit of unmanned drone weapons.

“I strained to glance behind me at the dozens of protesters I was sure were backing me up, and then I got hit again, this time with a cold realization: I was the only one who had made it through the doors. As two guards pointed at me and started running, I dodged a circle of gawking old housewives and bolted upstairs.”

He then found himself “stumbling around aircraft displays with just enough vision to keep tabs on my uniformed pursuers. “The museum is now closed!” screamed one of the guards as alarms sounded. “Everyone make your way to the exits immediately!” Using my jacket to cover my face — which I could feel swelling to Elephant Man proportions — I ducked through the confused tourists and raced out the exit. “Hey, you!” shouted a female guard reaching for my arm. “Get back here!” But I was already down the steps and out of sight.”

Howley  refers to the Museum as “the scene of my crime.”  In light of his detailed description of his activities today the fact that they clearly document the commission of the crime of trespassing on federal property, if not the intent to incite a riot there, these admissions should not be taken lightly or ignored.  As a result of Howley’s activities  a large number of people were subjected to pepper-spray attacks including journalists and tourists who had nothing to do with the protest.  Given the negative light that the press is attempting to spin this incident with regard to the ongoing occupations, from Wall Street and D.C. and now spreading to Main Streets across the country, the presence and admitted activities of this self-proclaimed agent provacateur should be brought to the attention of federal law enforcement officials.
