84 Million Americans Are Now Under High Wind Warnings Or Advisories

Dangerous winds are sweeping across the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast Monday, threatening to topple trees, cut power and cause travel headaches for tens of millions of Americans.

“A strengthening storm across southeastern Canada has brought strong westerly winds to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Monday. Wind gusts between 50-65 mph continue to impact these regions, leading to a plethora of issues in a variety of industries. Downed trees and power lines have led to power outages across the I-95 corridor, strong winds have forced ski resorts in the Northeast to close their summit access, and strong surface winds have made air travel difficult. Winds are expected to slowly slacken Monday evening and overnight into Tuesday. While this week largely looks seasonable or slightly below normal, more cold and possibly cold and snow is expected in this region of the country into the first half of March,” reported Meteorologist and owner of Empire Weather LLC., Ed Vallee.

Strong wind gusts of 50 to 65 mph have been reported in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area and Tri-state region as a cold front slams into the Northeast.

PropertyCasualty360 said more than 600,000 customers from Michigan to Virginia were without electricity, as some gusts clocked in at hurricane strength (75 mph).

In Sandusky, Ohio, a driver captured video of an 18-wheeler on the highway toppled by a powerful wind gust.

Wind advisories, watches, and warnings are in effect through Monday in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

“The most dangerous wind will be along the mid-Atlantic and New England coasts on Monday,” according to Vallee.

Approximately 600 flights have been canceled in the affected areas, according to FlightAware.

In New York City, “the strongest winds will occur during the afternoon and possibly evening Monday,” Vallee said.

High winds are causing significant delays for airlines and large trucks traveling on the I-95 interstate in the Northeast. A high wind warning is now in effect for New York City until 6 p.m.

Valle said the storm that brought blizzard conditions to the upper Great Lakes is behind this powerful system.

While the wind may bring travel delays and widespread power outages to the affected areas, Vallee said another storm could make its way through the interior Northeast to southeast New England on Wed night into Thursday.

Health Basics: Understanding GMO engineering and why altering plant DNA in laboratories becomes so DANGEROUS to human health

Conservative bloggers say they’re targets of dangerous ‘SWAT-ing’ prank

(FOXNEWS)   Conservative bloggers say they are being terrorized by a potentially deadly prank in which phony 911 calls bring armed cops to their doors in search of criminals, all in retaliation for their blog posts.

At least two conservative Internet pundits have reported being victims of “SWAT-ing.” In at least one incident, the caller claimed to be the resident of the home and confessed to shooting his wife, according to a recording of the call posted online.

“It’s a phone call that could have gotten me killed,” Patrick Frey, a deputy district attorney at Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, wrote of the July, 2011 incident on his blog, Patterico’s Pontifications.

The most recent incident involved blogger Erick Erickson, who claimed on his Red State site that sheriff’s deputies arrived at his Macon, Ga., home Sunday night as his family gathered for dinner. He said the episode was unnerving, particularly considering one deputy had his hand on his pistol. But Erickson admitted it could have been worse had he not warned officials – in light of Frey’s experience – that he anticipated being a victim.

Here’s what Frey claims happened:

Frey was awoken shortly after midnight by sheriff deputies after they received a call about a shooting inside his home. In a purported recording of the 911 call, the caller can be heard saying: “I’d like to report a shooting … I shot her, my wife.” Police ordered him at gunpoint to get outside, then handcuffed him until completing a search and finding his wife and children safe.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to FoxNews.com that deputies responded to his Frey’s house on the date in question. The department later filed a report on the incident with the FBI.

Frey said talks with nationwide experts suggested this was a case of SWAT-ing and says he and all other victims have written about activist and convicted felon Brett Kimberlin.

Reached by FoxNews.com, Kimberlin denied any connection to any of the attacks.

“I had never even heard of Erick Erickson until a couple of days ago,” he told FoxNews.com Tuesday. “And I definitely don’t know where he lives.  … I have nothing to do with the SWAT-ing of anybody.”

Kimberlin’s criminal history dates back to the 1970s.  He was convicted on felony charges in connection with the series of 1978 bombings in Speedway, Ind., in which a victim lost a leg — Kimberlin has maintained his innocence in that case all along. He also has been convicted on charges related to an attempt to import marijuana. He gained some notoriety in 1988 after saying he had sold marijuana to Dan Quayle before he became vice president.

Frey did not return calls seeking to verify his account of the SWAT-ing incident. The address from the 911 call was omitted in the recording posted online.

Blogger Robert Stacy McCain, in an interview with FoxNews.com, on Wednesday also claimed he was harassed by Kimberlin — though not by SWAT-ing.

McCain said he started writing about Kimberlin on May 17 following a Maryland case in which Kimberlin had a court order to force a blogger to stop writing about him.

Within the next few days, McCain said, Kimberlin called his wife’s place of employment to say McCain was harassing him. A quick Google search on Kimberlin sent the company into “high alert,” said McCain, who claims he’s now temporarily writing from a secret location.

“To continue reporting the story, I had to get out of there or any other place where Brett Kimberlin knew where I was,” said McCain, who writes the blog The Other McCain. “But if he thinks he’s going to pull the same thing with me, he’s got another thing coming.”

(THE DAILY MAIL)   A hazardous drug that eliminates free will and can wipe the memory of its victims is currently being dealt on the streets of Colombia.

The drug is called scopolamine, but is colloquially known as ‘The Devil’s Breath,’ and is derived from a particular type of tree common to South America.

Stories surrounding the drug are the stuff of urban legends, with some telling horror stories of how people were raped, forced to empty their bank accounts, and even coerced into giving up an organ.

Dangerous ignorance: The hysteria of Kony 2012

Bird flu mutation studies dangerous

Bird flu mutation studies dangerous 25 Jan 2012 A scientist researching a potentially highly lethal airborne version of the H5N1 bird flu virus said on Wednesday he must be allowed to pursue his studies if deadly pandemics are to be prevented. Despite declaring last week a 60-day moratorium on the studies to allay security fears, Yoshihiro Kawaoka argued in a commentary in the journal Nature it was urgent and vital that his work continue. Kawaoka, of Tokyo University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States, is a lead researcher on one of two recent studies showing how H5N1 can be transmitted through airborne droplets, and his work is at the centre of an international row over whether its findings should be censored.
